Adobe Flashplayer 9 for ubuntu dapper

Filed under: administration, geekery — chris @ 1:50 am

The absolute simplest way: download the script half-way down the page, run as root. Done! Uses alien to debianise the Adobe rpm.

Adobe’s own installer doesn’t seem to work, nor does manually copying plugins to /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox (if that’s where they are supposed to live).

  1. Cool, works for me.

Manual plugins are always a bit painful; I seem to have mozilla/, mozilla-firefox/ and firefox/ in /usr/lib. The plugin found its way to the latter. The equivalent user location seems to be ~/.mozilla/firefox.

  2. Yes, the mozilla directories have always confused me. In some cases they appear interchangeable, and in others not.

Another tool worth mentioning is installnewfirefox.sh, which grabs the latest FF, replacing the awful 1.5 in Dapper.
